Six Ball Rules

Except when clearly
contradicted by these additional rules, the
General Rules of Pocket Billiards apply.
TYPE OF GAME [ top ]
6 Ball is a variation on 9 ball. It is played with six balls. It follows the General Rules of
Pocket Billiards, except where contradicted by the rules of 9
Ball. If a 9 Ball rule is contradicted by these 6 Ball rules,
follow the 6 Ball rules.
PLAYERS [ top ]
2, or teams of two players .
BALLS USED [ top ]
1-6, plus the cue
ball.
THE RACK [ top ]
A diamond rack is used in 6 Ball. The one-ball is placed on the
apex of the triangle and the six-ball is placed in the
center of the last row.
OBJECT OF THE GAME [ top ]
To legally pocket object ball 6.
SCORING [ top ]
Scoring The shooter continues at the table any time his first contact
is with the lowest numbered ball on the table and a ball
(other than the cue-ball) falls in a pocket as a result of
his stroke. Ball and/or pocket need not be called.
RULES OF PLAY [ top ]
1. Cue-ball's first contact, on a legal shot, must be with the lowest numbered
ball on the table. Failure to do this is a foul.
2. Safety play is not allowed. Playing a safety is a foul.
3. Three consecutive fouls of the a player is lost of game.
ILLEGALLY POCKETED BALLS [ top ]
No penalty when a ball is pocketed illegally.
OBJECT BALL JUMPED OFF THE TABLE [ top ]
All spotted. No penalty.
CUE BALL AFTER JUMPED OFF TABLE/SCRATCH [ top ]
Incoming player has cue ball in hand behind the head string.
PENALTIES FOR FOULS [ top ]
Incoming player has cue ball in hand behind the head string.
