“It's like building a home. You've got
to build a great foundation in terms of their basic knowledge, and then you can
put anything you want on that foundation if you build the foundation the right
way.” -Rob Spence , Clemson Tigers
So, you stumble this section because you think or,
perhaps, you feel that you don't know anything about
billiards, or at least where to start. That's
completely OK, everything starts from small. In
billiards, there are three basic things that are very
important to put in consideration and make sure you put
them in
practice as well. Unfortunately, they are
mostly taken for granted due to elementary in
nature. As everyone knows, hope you do too, at least
with slightest idea, billiards is all about Geometry and
Physics, so if you don't get the geometry right to
begin with...well...then your Physics will be ineffective.
If you watch ESPN and observe those players, you would
notice that they follow these basic procedures...ok, too
much for intro, here they are:
This is easy if you are in front of a billiard
table with a billiard ball. The whole idea is to
position your body as stable and comfortable
as
possible so you could take as much time as you need
hitting the ball without straining yourself. So
that way you achieve it is by doing the following... Stand straight parallel to the table,
your both feet should line up with your shoulder,
place an arm on top of the table (this will be your
bridge arm), step your opposite leg back, for example,
if you place your left hand on the table you step your
right leg back...then...lean forward without bending
your knees. That's about it. Now, observe
yourself on a mirror, you look very similar to those
you see on ESPN, good start yeah.
Now you know the proper billiard stance, you should
put it into practice by making it
a habit whenever playing billiards. Because, if you do, it
would stick into your head, your brain will program it,
your body will response to it automatically.
