Only those who have to do simple things perfectly
will acquire the skill to do difficult things easily”
-Friedrich von Schiller , 1759-1805
This technique is an application of right or left
spin on the cue ball. This is accomplished by hitting
the cue ball to the left or right of the center (
called as center left\right English). There are
other variations also, you can hit the cue ball below
the center and with right English this is called low
right English. Then the rest would be high right
English, high left English, and low left English.
Try to practice these variations and see what you
observe. One interesting use of English in
billiard is to throw the object ball away from
the normal trajectory line ( perpendicular to the
tangential line) in order to get a better placing of
the cue ball. See diagram below.

Ok, your objective is to have the cue
ball to sink the three ball with a straight shot
in order for you to get an easy shot on the eight ball
for a winning game. But one problem...you know
that the straight path ( yellow line) is not lined up
with the pocket. What would you do? Well...still
aim for the straight shot and apply a right English
spin...doing this...the three ball, at impact, will be
thrown to the left and your cue ball will still be on
your desired position. How'd you like that?
As time goes by, I will be adding more stuff in
this section, so you may want to check back later to
see what's new and learn more about billiard. For
the meantime, check that book I recommend above if you
like it.
Good luck!!!
